Hey Frostitutes,
Its been almost a year since Nick's first ever co-written film, Paul, finished shooting in New Mexico, and now we can finally share something we've had up our sleeves since then.

Back in August of 2009, frostitution.net was invited to the set in Albuquerque where they were shooting the film's Comic-Con scenes. Val (Pnut), Geoi, and Seth (Phlaxis) got to watch them film from the set, be extras in the movie, and have lunch with the man himself.

Bear in mind that none of us are professional reporters, nor have we ever actually written a set report. Hell, some of us have never written a book report! But, we wanted to share our experience with everyone as best we could... So, we present to you now, the official frostitution.net set report!

Paul: Official Frostitute Set Report
By G & V

Most of the conversation in this article is paraphrased, for we lacked a tape recorder, and we wouldn't have used it if we had one. However, we took notes, and have consulted with each other for accuracy.

To read a brief synopsis on Paul, please head over to the Working Title Films website.

Oh guys. Where to begin? I guess we'll start on Tuesday, the 11th of August, 2009. The first day we got to go to the set of Nick Frost and Simon Pegg's new film, PAUL.

(INT - HYATT REGENCY ALBUQUERQUE - MORNING)

There are two beds in the southwest decor-clad hotel room illuminated by the glow of the television, and three sleeping figures. As the sound of the "Saved by the Bell" theme song drowns out the snores, a cell phone begins chirping and vibrating on the night stand. All three inhabitants of the room are jolted from their slumber.

SETH instantly grabs the cell phone and silences it. As he flips the switch on the table lamp, the room is awakened with piercing light and we see the two girls, VAL and GEOI. 06:30 on the dot. The three then take turns completing their morning routines, and head out the door to greet the day they'd so been anticipating.

(EXT - HYATT/DOWNTOWN ALBUQUERQUE - 06:55 AM)

As the three walk out onto the sidewalk, they notice the hustle and bustle of a typical downtown city morning. Businessmen and women getting coffee and talking on cellphones as they shuffle down sidewalks and across streets. This was just another work day to the good citizens of Albuquerque, New Mexico, but to these three people, it was what would surely be one of the most exciting days of their lives.

The trio walk briskly down the sidewalk, chattering excitedly to each other as they make their way to the Albuquerque Convention Center.

(EXT - ALBUQUERQUE CONVENTION CENTER [ACC] - 06:59 AM)

They see a yellow sign affixed to a light post that says, "FGF" with an arrow pointing left. FGF... Fried Gold Films. They follow the arrow to another sign on an entry door with an arrow that says, "EXTRAS".

(INT - ACC - 07:00 AM)

SETH, VAL, and GEOI enter a huge main area where there are possibly 100 people queuing up at three tables. Upon asking where they're supposed to be, they are led to the Extras Casting Director, Ms. ELIZABETH GABLE.

They fill out some paperwork, get pictures taken, and mosey over to the breakfast buffet. Scrambled eggs, toast, oatmeal, and other typical breakfast food is provided. GEOI and VAL make themselves plates, SETH grabs a coffee and they move to a massive room with approximately 400 people in it. Some dressed in normal clothes, and a lot dressed in Star Wars, Star Trek, and Lord of the Rings costumes.

They find some seats and wait. And wait. And wait.

Finally, at around 10:30 AM, there is a call for extras to line-up. They are taken into an auditorium on the top floor and strategically seated.

(INT - AUDITORIUM)

12th row, center, we see VAL, GEOI, and SETH. As they sit and chat, the crew tests the scene set-up with different lighting techniques and camera movements. To their right, walking into the auditorium from a distant isle, NICK FROST, SIMON PEGG, and MINNIE! NICK and SIMON wave at everyone, and NICK runs up and down the isle with his Creative Vado HD camera. When he takes his place in the front of the auditorium, VAL and GEOI wave infatically at him. NICK smiles, points excitedly, and waves back.

They begin filming the scene. The Assistant Directors explain that they are shooting a Comicon panel, and the extras are to act like they would if their favourite actor or writer was entering the stage. The director, GREG MOTTOLA, calls for action, and as the crowd of extras roars for their heroes, the camera dollies in on NICK and SIMON.

(45 MINUTES LATER)

The scene is wrapped and all the extras are herded back to Extras Holding, where they wait for another hour or so until there is a call for 100 more extras to be in a comicon scene. The trio line-up and are taken into the set.

(INT - COMICON SET)

When VAL, GEOI, and SETH step onto the set, they can't believe what they see. It looks exactly like the real San Diego Comicon, complete with real vendors, merchandise, and geeks! The colours are beautifully chosen, and everything is set-up brilliantly.

An Assistant Director positions the three in the center isle in front of the entrance and directs them to walk from this point to the giant Jabba the Hut across the room during the scene.

Then we see NICK and SIMON standing at the entrance. They do a few takes, and then SIMON walks around to scope the room and check it out as the camera is resetting. He walks around a corner, minding his own business. None of the extras are talking to him, and he's not talking to any of them. He see's VAL and GEOI and smiles, walks over to them and shakes all three of their hands.

SIMON
Hey guys! How're ya going?

GEOI
Good man. Good to see ya again.

VAL
Really good, yeah.

SIMON
Great. Thanks for being here. I'll see you 'round later.

GEOI
Cool. Later.

SIMON walks back to his spot and resumes working. A few more takes later, the camera is being reset again, and NICK waves, and runs over to the trio. Hugs are exchanged.

NICK
Hello, Chaps. Hi Val. So nice to see you.

VAL
Yeah, you too.

NICK
G, how are you?

GEOI
Great! How bout yourself?

NICK
Good, (notices SETH) Oh, hello.

SETH
Hello.

NICK
So when did you get in? Just this morning, or?

GEOI
Oh, no, we actually got in on Sunday, so we've had a chance to get to know Albuquerque...

NICK
Oh. I'm soo sorry.

(all laugh)

NICK
So how's the room?

VAL
It's very nice. Thank you.

NICK
Oh good. No problem with the poltergeist then?

GEOI
Haha, yeah right.

NICK
Really. We made sure to get you the room with the poltergeist in it.

(All laugh)

GEOI
Haha, shut-up dude, no there's not.

NICK
Oh yeah, a BIG one. Hey listen, I gotta get back, but we'll talk soon. Lunch tomorrow, yeah?

VAL
Yeah, cool.

GEOI
Later.

They do more takes, and periodically, NICK waves at VAL, SETH, and GEOI. Then the scene is finished and it's back to extras holding for more waiting. 2:30pm rolls around and it's time for lunch. Like with everything else they've done, the three are herded to the cafeteria with the other extras.

(INT - CAFETERIA - DAY)

Lunch is a huge buffet table with choices of what appears to be some sort of fish, ROASTED brisket (not roast, and not bbq brisket, but roasted brisket), mash, rice, green beans, and salads.

The three of them sit at a vacant table, and are joined by Jean-Luc Picard, and his wife whom is painted green. A great costume, but no doubt a pain in the ass to put on. SETH eats almost a full meal for the first time in days. GEOI ponders the benefits of roasting brisket. VAL has a bit of everything, and a bowl of shredded cheese.

GEOI
Dude, did you get JUST a bowl of cheese? Not even some salad?

VAL
Yeah.

GEOI
OK.

Lunch is eaten in literally 10 minutes, and it's back to extras holding where there is almost immediately a call for 50 extras. The three friends are taken back into comicon.

Paul

(INT - COMICON)

This time, SETH is lagging behind and gets separated from VAL and GEOI. He's taken to a different area of the set while VAL and GEOI are taken directly to the center of the action.

GEOI and VAL are positioned right next to where NICK and SIMON are positioned, at a faux Area 51 outpost. Waves, smiles and nods are exchanged. There are three rehersals, and GEOI and VAL walk exactly where they are told to walk, and everything is fine. But then on the first real take, the people in front of them slow down, and everyone is bunched up, pushing VAL and GEOI out to the side. SIMON runs through the shot doing his part, and nearly runs right into GEOI and VAL. Their eyes lock for a milli-second with shocked faces and, "CUT".

GEOI decides that they should change their destination to be sure and stay out of SIMON'S path, and asks an A.D. if they should maybe just walk across the isle instead. That is ok'd, and it's back to start. GEOI is staring at a sign, musing to herself when she hears SIMON whisper-shouting at her.

SIMON
Geoi. Geoi!

GEOI snaps out of it and looks over to SIMON.

SIMON
Don't FUCK UP this take, you two!

NICK and SIMON laugh.

GEOI
Yes SIR! Sorry about that.

SIMON
I mean it, GREG (MOTTOLA) says your shit.

Everyone laughs.

GEOI
Aww! I'm so sorry.

SIMON laughs and turns back around.

A couple of takes later, and the scene is wrapped. SIMON walks by VAL and GEOI and says "WELL DONE, GUYS" with a pat on their backs. And everyone vacates the set.

(INT - EXTRAS HOLDING - NIGHT)

VAL, SETH, and GEOI sit at a table as they are waiting around for whatever is going to happen next. GEOI is reading a book. VAL is playing with her iphone. SETH is ready with his camera as he's made it his mission to get pictures of all the interestingly-dressed extras. SETH gets up to take photos of some Star Wars guys while VAL and GEOI stay seated.

VAL smacks GEOI on the arm and points towards a door.

VAL
DUDE! LOOK!

GEOI turns to look.

GEOI
Dude! Is that JOE LO TRUGLIO??

VAL
Yeah dude. He's not even supposed to be here today.

GEOI
Aww! So cool!

JOE LO TRUGLIO is walking in with a digital video camera, filming the extras. He slowly pans his camera left around the room and GEOI and VAL wave and smile at him. It seems as if they're the only people in the room who recognize him. Then JOE appears to zoom in on them, smiles and waves back, and continues filming.

VAL
Haha. He's like RIGHT behind SETH.

GEOI
SETH! SETH!

SETH turns towards GEOI and see's her pointing as if to say "look behind you". As SETH turns, JOE LO TRUGLIO is almost right in his face. SETH acknowledges him with a friendly, half-shocked nod and steps out of his way.

SETH walks over to where JOE is standing, and sparks up a light conversation. GEOI and VAL join them and introduce themselves.

GEOI
JOE, it's so cool to meet you. I'm a fan of your work.

JOE
Oh cool. Thanks! You guys been watching the video blogs at the PAUL site?

VAL
Yes!

SETH
Oh yeah, we wouldn't miss them.

JOE
Awesome. Yeah, they're a lot of fun to do.

SETH
Are there going to be any more, do you know?

JOE
Yeah, we did a few more that aren't up yet. Another three chairs, and a three chairs on a green screen. I'm not sure how much of that we got, actually. It's so cool that you're watching.

GEOI
Do you think you'll get to do any press when it comes out?

JOE
Uhh, I don't know yet, but I hope so. I imagine I will.

GEOI
That'd be sweet. I might see you in Austin if they do anything there.

JOE
Oh good. So, are you guys fan... I mean, you're not just extras right?

GEOI
Yeah, we're here for NICK. We, she and I, sort of help run his fansite, frostitution.net.

JOE
Oh, that's cool. So you guys get to be in the film now, huh?

GEOI and VAL
Yeah. Pretty amazing.

GEOI
Well, we don't wanna bother you more than we have, so again, so cool to meet you, Joe.

JOE
You too. You guys take care.

(INT - COMICON - NIGHT)

GEOI, VAL, and SETH are called upon one more time to work on the comicon set, and it proves to be a long one. This scene involves a 360 degree tracking shot that VAL and GEOI get to walk around, and see NICK and SIMON as they are playing a game at the convention. It really looks like they're having a blast.

While they reset, VAL and GEOI watch the monitors over GREG MOTTOLA'S shoulder. When GEOI looks back towards NICK and SIMON, SIMON is jumping up and down, waving at them excitedly. GEOI nudges VAL, who is extending herself to the limit to see the monitors, and points to SIMON. The girls laugh and wave back.

Another scene. The last one of the day. Everything is getting tiresome. Sore backs, feet, and legs, along with a bit of fatigue, and some serious hunger setting in makes for impatience.

GEOI looks at her watch. 10:35 PM.

GEOI
Dude, guys, if we don't get out of here quick, all the restaurants are going to close, and there's no way I'm paying for room service. I mean, they said that they'd feed us breakfast and lunch, but not dinner.

SETH
Yeah. I just wanna go get in the hot tub, my back is killing me.

GEOI
We've been here for almost 15 hours. I think they think all of us extras just live here and can get food at home. We have to eat at a restaurant, or we don't get to eat tonight.

Just past 11:00 PM, they wrap for the day. SETH, GEOI, and VAL go to extras holding to gather their things before they leave, and see that craft services has set up a buffet table there for the extras. Tacos. Thank God for that! Had they known there would be food waiting, they wouldn't have worried about the late hour. They make their tacos and chow down.

Now it's back to the hotel for a shower and bed. Another early morning tomorrow. But tomorrow, they get to have lunch with NICK!

(INT - ACC - WEDNESDAY MORNING)

Having gotten used to the routine a bit, and now knowing pretty much exactly what to expect, the three Frost fans saunter through the Albuquerque Convention Center, get their breakfasts, and take their places in extras holding, where they wait.

(EXT - ACC - MORNING)

SETH and GEOI go outside for a smoke, and SIMON comes walking up with MINNIE.

SIMON
Morning.

SETH
Good morning.

GEOI
Hey you! Aww, MINNIE!

GEOI pets MINNIE for a few seconds while SIMON and SETH chat a little.

SIMON
Alright, I'll see you in there.

GEOI
Later.

SETH
See ya.

(EXT - BACK PARKING LOT - DAY)

2:15 PM... After sitting in extras holding all day, VAL, GEOI, and SETH are escorted to NICK FROST'S trailer on the back lot. The Production Assistant who is leading them to the trailer knocks on NICK'S door and it opens. NICK pops his head out and greets the trio with a big smile.

NICK
Come on in, come in!

(INT - NICK FROST'S TRAILER - DAY)

VAL
Which way?

GEOI
There, dude, over there.

NICK
Hey! So how are you today?

GEOI
We're good. Great. Happy to be here. You know SETH, right? He posts on the board as Phlaxis.

NICK
Oh, right! Hello.

P.A.
NICK, they thought they might like some salad with their lunch, so here they are.

NICK (addressing the three)
Oh? How terribly un-American of you.

All laugh.

NICK
Well let's eat shall we? Pizza's getting cold.

VAL
What movie are you watching?

NICK
Cape Fear. Come on, grab a plate.

There is one large mushroom pizza, and one large cheese pizza. Everyone takes a plate, and picks their pieces of pizza. NICK sits at the end of his three-chaired kitchenette table, while GEOI, VAL, and SETH take their seats across from him on the couch. As they eat, they hold casual conversation, just generally shooting the shit for an hour. After NICK finishes his lunch, he grabs a stack of Shaun of the Dead DVD covers, and begins signing them.

NICK
So, how are you liking being extras?

GEOI
Oh man, NICK, I gotta say, I knew what you guys did was no walk in the park, but I didn't fully appreciate it until actually doing it, kind of. It's a lot of fucking work, and we didn't even have any lines to say.

NICK
Yeah, well it's like some guy on twitter said, I had said I was tired, and he says, "oh come on, it's not like you're a bricklayer", and he's right, you know, it's not like that.

VAL
It's a different kind of work.

NICK
Yeah, you know, I've laid brick before, let's see you make a movie!

GEOI
Yeah, it's like I'd almost rather be a bricklayer, cos then at least you know what hours you'll work and all that.

NICK
Haha, right.

GEOI
I mean like yesterday. They had said we could be shooting for up to 10 or 12 hours, and we started getting a bit grumpy because it was nearing 11 at night, and all the restaurants were going to be closed, and we thought that we wouldn't be able to have dinner at all.

NICK
Right, but you guys are VIPs, so you get to take advantage of craft services and all that.

GEOI
No one told us anything like that, we've just been hanging out in extras all day. But if they would have told us that, or even told us there would be tacos for us, we'd have not worried about it so much. I was just like, "I'm not paying for room service."

NICK
Why not? Get room service! It's on the company card.

GEOI
Oh I don't know about that, they said the room and parking would be taken care of, but even so, it's too expensive, I don't wanna run up a bill if I don't have to.

NICK
No, get room service! Order what you want. You're with me. So tonight, you get room service. Ok?

GEOI
Alright. We'll see.

NICK
Does anybody mind if I smoke?

ALL
Not at all.

NICK
Do YOU wanna smoke?

GEOI
Yes I do.

GEOI gets up from her spot on the couch and clears off NICK'S table, and sits down on the side chair.

NICK
What about you guys? Do you wanna smoke?

SETH
Sure.

GEOI
I'm not sure that's, I mean, it's a lot of smoke.

NICK
(To SETH) Do you need one?

SETH
Uh, sure, if you have an extra, I'll take one.

NICK
Oh yeah, I've got loads. (To VAL) You don't smoke, do you?

VAL
Uhhhhhhh.

GEOI
Yes, she smokes.

NICK
You want one too?

VAL
Sure. Thanks

GEOI
Oh, I feel kinda bad now.

NICK
WHAT? WHY?

GEOI
I was thinking of going outside, myself.

NICK
Why would you do that? It's hot outside.

GEOI
It's just, with one person smoking it's bad enough, but with four of us smoking, that's a lot of smoke. I don't wanna stink up your trailer.

NICK
Pfft. I smoke in here all the time.

GEOI
I kinda knew you started back up.

NICK
Yeah well. I quit smoking, and I was doing well. I was taking tennis lessons, and I lost loads of weight, and I was feeling really good. Then I broke my hand and couldn't do any of that so it was like, 'Fuck it'. I mean, I LIKE smoking. You know?

SETH
Yeah. I know what you mean.

GEOI
Yep.

SETH
Oh, ok, I have something to give you, and I don't know how to explain it really. It's kind of bizarre.

NICK
I'm in!

SETH
Ok, so my friend, Kevin has a friend that makes these little sculptures, and when he heard I was going to meet you, he insisted that I give this to you. I have no idea why.

SETH hands NICK a plastic egg container like you get out of a quarter toy machine, and inside it is a tiny sculpture of a person sitting grabbing their ankles.

NICK
Oh, nice. Erotic art. He knows I'm a man, right?

SETH
I know, it's weird, and like I said, I have no idea why he thought he wanted you to have it.

(All laugh)

NICK
So have you guys done any work today?

GEOI
Not yet.

SETH
We've just kinda been waiting all day.

NICK
No worries. We have a scene at the end that we'll get you in.

A dreaded knock on the door of the trailer brings everyone down because with that knock, comes the realization that their time with NICK is over. The P.A. sticks her head in.

NICK
Five more minutes, yeah?

P.A.
Ok

NICK chats with them for a few more minutes, and then it's time to get back to work.

Paul

(INT - COMICON - DAY)

VAL, SETH, and GEOI are taken around the set and introduced to the crew. They first met LANCE BANGS, the documentarian that is filming the behind the scenes action and the video blogs. Then they meet GREG MOTTOLA, the director. He thanks them for coming, and is very polite and nice. Then they meet the First Assistant Director, and a couple more A.D.s.

They sit down in a corner behind the monitors with the crew, and VAL gets up to look around. NICK comes over to her and holds out a cup of peanut M&M;'s. She takes one yellow one, and then NICK smiles and informs her that they are for the whole trio.

VAL
Oh. Thanks.

NICK
This is how we roll! Don't eat the red ones though, I think they're a bit off.

They stand behind GREG for a while, watching the monitors, and watch different scenes being filmed, and set up. SIMON comes over and introduces them to KRISTEN WIIG.

SIMON
Have you guys met KRISTEN yet?

VAL
No.

SIMON
KRISTEN, this is VAL and GEOI, they're NICK'S friends. They know HARMONY (owner of peggster.net).

KRISTEN
Oh cool! I like Harmony. Nice to meet you.

GEOI and VAL
Nice to meet you too.

Before they know it, the last scenes of the day are being rehearsed. Then they step back into their role as extras. When they wrap on the scene, GEOI walks up to NICK and pats him on the shoulder.

GEOI
Hey Nick.

NICK
Yeah G?

GEOI
Uhm, we were wondering if it would be possible to get some pics with you when this is over.

NICK
Yeah sure, come on.

GEOI
Just before you leave.

NICK
Let's go over here.

GEOI
I'm sorry.

NICK
For what??

GEOI
We should have done this when we were at lunch.

NICK
Pfft, Shut-up. Come on, over here, there's no one around.

NICK sits down at a table in one of the booths and asks an A.D. to take the picture. As he sits he sees a pile of prop book covers.

NICK
Oh LOOK! BOOKCOVERS! Here! Stick 'em in the bag, stick'em in the bag.

NICK
OK. How bout the boy in back, and the two girls flanking?

He takes three pictures, and walks back to the crew area with them, and they all three thank him. They weren't expecting him to do it right that minute.

NICK
Ok. Stick around after we get this shot done so we can say goodbye properly.

They wrap on the very last comicon scene, which has a big crane shot that pulls up over the entire set. Looking exhausted, NICK walks over to VAL, SETH, and GEOI. He hugs them all.

NICK
Alright guys. Thanks for coming, and we'll be seeing you again.

GEOI
Thanks for everything, NICK.

VAL
Yeah, thank you so much.

SETH
Yeah, thank you. It's been great.

NICK
Hey, it was my pleasure. And don't forget, GET ROOM SERVICE! It's on me!

GEOI
Yes sir, whatever you say.

NICK
Drive safely, and shoot me an e-mail later. Let me know you're ok.

GEOI and VAL
We will! BYE!

SETH
Bye

We'd like to thank Nick Frost, Nira Park , Greg Mottola, Simon Pegg, the Hyatt Regency in Albuquerque, and the entire production crew for giving us this amazing opportunity. See Paul in cinemas March 18th, 2011 (U.S) and April 1st, 2011 (U.K).
